Moderators (mods) are volunteers who manage subreddits — enforcing rules, removing spam, banning disruptive users, and shaping community culture. Each subreddit has its own moderation team with varying levels of strictness. For Reddit marketers, understanding moderator expectations is critical. Many subreddits have explicit rules against self-promotion, and mods will quickly remove posts or ban accounts that violate these guidelines. Building a relationship with the community (and sometimes the mods directly) before any promotional activity is a best practice.
